The Lagos International Poetry Festival 2018 came to an end on Saturday November 3rd and all we wished for was an extension of its awesomeness.

From insightful workshops, to intriguing conversations and amazing poetry performances, LIPFEST18 had it all.

The Festival began with a bang with the opening ceremony which took us all on a beautiful ride of poetry and some nice music. All the acts brought their A game and you could see the excitement in the eyes of attendees as the event progressed.

In between were workshops by the poet in residence Lebo Mashile who made participants emotional. Yemi Sode who redefined participants perception of performance poetry, Nick Mohama who participants found really inspiring and Kwame Dawes who dropped too many gems that caused gasps.

All the events were worthy of note. We particularly loved the highly engaging evening with Lebo Mashile and Wana Udobang, Finding Home, the fiery Panels on Saturday that got us all thinking and of course the school visits with amazing poets.

The Festival Concert quickly became the highlight of the entire experience as for four hours poets from Nigeria, the Uk, South Africa and Germany treated us to a marathon of great performances. MI Abaga asides from surprising us with his poetry performances also treated us to a slow version of his popular song with Waje “Whether na one Naira” At 12am, you could still see a filled hall with attendees eagerly awaiting the next performance.

The Festival ended with a bang with the Poetry after dark event and the silent disco party experience which had participants showing their dance skills and exchanging smiles and laughter.

LIPFEST18 in one word will be amazing and that is just an understatement. We look forward to next years edition and if you missed it, please do not miss future editions. Big congrats to the Festival Director and the entire team on a successful event.

We were glad to have been part of such greatness!💃🏾
